5 Remedies For Toothaches

Posted on

Whether it is due to an abscess or fracture, a toothache can cause some unbearable pain. The pain can get so bad that you do not even want to roll out of bed. If you can't go to the dentist's office right away, it is possible to temporarily subdue the pain at home. Here are five remedies for toothaches you should try.

Make a Salt Water Rinse

One of the simplest ways to relieve a toothache is to mix a teaspoon of salt with a cup of warm water. The solution will clear away some of the bacteria and reduce inflammation, subduing the pain. Just swish the mixture in your mouth for approximately 30 seconds. You can repeat this treatment several times a day.

Use Clove Oil

If your tooth is in pain, clove oil can be a lifesaver. According to Colgate, clove oil contains analgesic and antibacterial properties, which can remove bacteria from your teeth. Just put a few drops of it on a cotton ball and apply it directly to the affected tooth until the pain stops. Be careful not to swallow any of the oil, as it can lead to serious complications.

Try Tea

Tea is not just great for relieving a sore throat; it can also do wonders for a toothache. The tannins in tea help reduce swelling, which can help relieve tooth pain. After you wet a tea bag in warm water, put it against your tooth. In about 15 to 20 minutes, you should feel a lot better.

Mix Ginger and Cayenne

If you have ginger and cayenne in your cabinet, mix equal parts of the spices together with a little bit of water. Dip a cotton ball in the mixture and apply it to the affected tooth for 20 minutes. These spices are known for their pain killing properties, so you should find relief in no time.

Take a Cough Drop

Because cough drops contain anesthetic, they may temporarily relieve your toothache. Put a cough drop in your mouth and suck on it until the pain subsides.

Keep in mind that all of these toothache remedies are just temporary. It is very important to visit your dentist as soon as possible to determine the cause of your tooth pain. Waiting too long will just make the problem worse. A dentist will examine your tooth and decide the best way to treat the pain.
