2 Cosmetic Dental Applications To Improve The Look Of Your Teeth

Posted on

If you have teeth that you are uncomfortable showing off, you may find yourself smiling with your mouth closed or covering your mouth when you laugh. Cosmetic dentistry may be able to help. Many different cosmetic dental applications are designed to improve the appearance of the teeth in multiple ways at once. Here are a few of these procedures:

Veneers

Dental veneers are made from resin or porcelain. The slender, tooth-shaped pieces of material are applied to the front of the teeth. In preparation for the veneer application, a bit of tooth enamel is removed from the teeth that will be treated. The removal of the small amount of tooth material is to ensure that the veneers fit flush with the other teeth and do not distort your bite.

Veneers work by concealing imperfections, so practically any dental blemish can be corrected. Veneers are regularly applied to improve the appearance of dental discoloration, broken teeth, dental cracks, gaps between the teeth, and dental misalignments.

Dental stains are not always treatable through bleaching treatments. Some discoloration is caused by birth defects, medications, or dental trauma, so it does not respond to chemical bleaches. As a result, for some people, dental veneers provide the only way to improve the color of their teeth.

Teeth that are cracked or chipped can be covered and fortified with veneers. In addition to covering the teeth, the veneers also help provide the structural support needed to prevent the damage from progressing.

Gaps that give the teeth an unattractive appearance can be filled in using veneers that are made slightly larger than the natural teeth. Likewise, the look of minor misalignments can be improved.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns can cover the entire natural crown of a tooth. The crowns, which can be made of metal alloy, stainless steel, or gold, are usually constructed from tooth-colored material, such as porcelain, resin, or porcelain-over-metal. They provide protection to compromised teeth, but they also cover imperfections. Teeth that are misshapen or discolored can be made to appear perfect.

Before a dental crown is made, an impression of your teeth is obtained to ensure that the crown fits properly in your mouth and blends well with your other teeth. The shade of a dental crown is usually matched to the hue of the other teeth.
