Use Porcelain Veneers To Achieve A Nice White Smile

Posted on

There are many ways a dentist can help you with your cosmetic dental issues. One popular treatment option is porcelain veneers. They are so popular because they look natural, they are strong, and they give you a permanent solution that will address your dental issues for many years to come. You can learn more about these veneers and how they are used to help someone get a whiter smile:

Some teeth can't be whitened with whitening treatments

When someone has stained teeth, they can have the stains removed using one of many whitening products or types of treatments. However, not everyone who has discolored teeth has stained teeth. Some people have a lack of enamel, which is the outer shell that protects teeth from damage and cavities. Thinner enamel allows the next layer of the teeth, the dentin, to be seen through the enamel. Dentin is darker in color, and someone with thinner enamel can therefore have teeth that appear yellow, orange, brown, gray, or tan in color.

Since the darker color comes from under the enamel, there is no way to bleach it or whiten it with these types of products or treatments. Instead, the only way to get a whiter smile is to put something over the teeth that is shade of white that the person would prefer for their teeth to be. Bonding that the dentist sculpts right onto the teeth is one option. However, the superiority of porcelain veneers has made them the preferred choice for many people.

Porcelain veneers are made to fit

Porcelain veneers are made using a mold of the patient's mouth. First, the teeth will be prepped for the veneers, and this means that they will be shaved down in size to allow room for the veneers and the adhesive. The lab then makes the veneers to look just like real teeth, following the prescription that tells them the color and shade that the patient want the veneers to be made in. While some people would naturally answer that they would like the whitest white available, many times the dentist will suggest a different shade because the whitest possible color and shade can look fake.

When the veneers come back, the dentist will put them in place and check the fit. Then, they will be permanently affixed to the patient's teeth. In many cases, the dentist will suggest just getting veneers for the teeth that are visible when the patient talks or smiles because there's really not much need to have them put on the back teeth where no one will see them.

Porcelain veneers may be right for you

If you have naturally dark colored teeth, then you likely already know that there aren't products out there to help you get white teeth and you may have already tried a few of them throughout the years only to wonder what you did wrong. If you finally want to get a white smile, then you should go to a cosmetic dentist and ask them about porcelain veneers.
